Gavin really likes his bottle

My parenting books say that when a baby turns 1 you should take his bottle away and make him drink from a cup. Gavin has not yet mastered a real cup, and he hates drinking his formula from a sippy cup. He cries and refuses to take more than a few sips. He really likes his bottle. Tonight I made Gavin's bottle and set it down on the end table for a few seconds while I got out some books to read before bedtime. This is what I found when I turned around from the bookshelf:




Somehow I don't think we're going to be getting rid of the bottle in 1 week.

Peak-a-boo!

Today Gavin attempted to play peak-a-boo with Tyler. He hid behind our big footstool with Tyler lying on the other side. Then, he slowly raised his head up over the footstool until Tyler saw him. When Tyler looked at him he laughed and laughed. He did this several times, peaking over and to the side of the footstool.

January 19-25

This past week my mom came to visit and spend time with Gavin. He enjoyed spending time with her, and Jake and I enjoyed going out to lunch by ourselves a couple times. Gavin had a big week overall. By the end of the week Gavin had gotten over his cold, had grown enough to wear his big boy cowboy pajamas: Had kicked back after devouring a turkey dinner:

Had gotten his second haircut:

And had attempted to skip his morning nap, but fell asleep while eating lunch:

Colds are no fun

We've all been sick with bad colds this week. At times Gavin sneezed out so much mucus he made me think of Slimer from Ghostbusters. He hasn't felt like playing much, so Gavin and I have spent a lot if time cuddling on the couch, reading and watching cartoons. I think Curious George is his favorite. I discovered that as an adult Sesame Street is incredibly boring. It makes me sleepy. A friend of mine gave Gavin this cool book this week:

Today we all stayed home from church to recuperate. Gavin seems to be feeling better but is still coughing and sneezing some, and is sleeping longer than usual. This morning he enjoyed playing with the cold glass in our back door:

Starting to stand

Today Gavin stood unsupported 3 times for about 2 seconds each.

This week

This week Gavin...
-could use another haircut
-keeps scaring me by standing up in the bathtub
-said "dada" for the first time
- started taking off his pocket bib when he is done eating:


- is big enough for 18 month pajamas:
- laughed hysterically when Jake let Curious George drink from Gavin's sippy cup:

Walking! (with assistive device)

As of today Gavin can walk holding onto his push toy without falling down. He can't aim it too well yet - he tends to walk it into walls and furniture.

New Year, New Suit

It's hard to get Gavin to stand still for a picture nowadays! He reminds me of the cartoon character Richie Rich in this suit.

Christmas toys

Gavin's absolute favorite toy he got for Christmas was this stuffed dog that dances and sings "Who let the dogs out?" Gavin loved playing with it so much we had to hide it so he would pay attention when we opened his other presents. It is actually a re-gifted present that was given to Jake by his mom several years ago. I never saw Jake do this with it:

Gavin also really likes this vtech toy that has a bunch of buttons that you push and to either hear music or a description of the picture on the button. Gavin's favorite button is the one with a picture of a baby that magically says "Hello Gavin, booga booga booga" in Daddy's voice.
Gavin got a bunch of books, but his favorite, of course, was the one with the big picture of a dog on the front. He doesn't care about the story too much, but he loves to play with the cover.

Gavin also really likes his ride on car/ push toy. He prefers to crawl around pushing it, however. He also likes to sit on it and be pushed around. He really like opening and closing the hood, and taking things out of it that I hide in there.
And, as always, the tv remote control is a favorite. Gavin crawled away while we were opening his presents to go play with it.

Growing boy

As of today Gavin is wearing size 18 month onesies. Regular 18 month shirts are still big on him, but the onesies fit. Some of his 12 month shirts are too short now. Gavin's blue dress shirt that goes with his suit still fits but its now too tight to button the top button so he can wear a tie. Luckily, our friends the Kozaks gave Gavin an 18 month suit for Christmas. Perfect timing. We're still rolling up Gavin's pant legs in his 12 month pants. Some new things Gavin has been doing: pushing his toys around while crawling, usually babbling constantly while playing, and crawling in and out of Tyler's crate. He's also graduated into the big tub. He didn't have the trunk stability needed to safely sit in the big tub when we first got him, so he used a toddler tub. Now he has no problem keeping his balance. This was Christmas eve:
His favorite thing to do in the tub is play in a waterfall made by me pouring water out of a bowl:
