That boy of mine

Yesterday afternoon Tyler (the dog) escaped briefly and ran across the street into the neighbor's yard. Jake was able to coax him back home quickly, with the whole incident lasting less than 5 minutes. Later I asked Gavin where he thought Tyler was going when he ran off. He replied, "He going get us a baby."

Christmas morning 2012

Gavin has not mentioned a "little spider" so far today and I'm not about to bring it up.

Early Presents

Gavin has been sick the last week with a viral cough and fever. He's better now, still a little lingering cough but no fever. To help him get his mind off his troubles we let him start opening 1 present a day on Saturday. 1st he chose the big present from Grandma and Grandpa Cross:

Sunday he opened the present from Wake and Leslie - minecraft magnets and a t-shirt. Monday he opened a punching bag from Grandma and Grandpa Cross which has been getting a lot of use. Robyn also stopped by on Monday with a wood craft kit that kept Gavin busy much of the day - he's building a boat as I type this. My parents came into town last Wednesday and Gavin's been enjoying the tranformers they brought too.

Last Tuesday Gavin performed in his school's Christmas program, based on the story of Jesus' birth. He sang a bunch of songs, but his favorite is "Go Tell it on the Mountain." We've been enjoying him singing it around the house for a few weeks now.

Merry Christmas!

Living room!

As a Christmas gift to myself this year I decided to fix my living room. It has been kind of drab since we moved in and needed some color to perk it up. I bought a rug (indoor/outdoor so hopefully it will be easy to clean), blew up a couple beach pictures I had taken, and bought a photo by artist Scott Sumner depicting Jesus seated next to the sea at sunset. I am very pleased with the results. The room feels so much more inviting and homey.

These are the pictures I had blown up:
